Staying Cool in Tribeca This Summer

Known mostly as a landmark for the annual Tribeca Film Festival, Tribeca Cinemas does open up its historically significant and selective seating to a public audience on a few rare occasions. For 2013, the venue launched a Summer Cinema Series, featuring three free movies across twelve weeks that are open to any who RSVP in time.  As part of the series, New Yorkers will revel at the opportunity to watch "Wet Hot American Summer" (June 4th), "Top Gun" (July 9th), and "What About Bob?" (Aug 6th). A fourth viewing of "When Harry Met Sally" was a Groupon Exclusive that quickly sold out for August 9th.

You might be asking yourself why a free screening downtown is a superior option than free movies-on-demand in your own apartment. Well, that’s simple. One initiative is the renovated retro atmosphere you will be submerged in. If you have never experienced the TFF, or just weren’t lucky enough to score a ticket, this is one New York City theatre you must visit. Often frequented by industry professionals such as Tom Hanks, Robert De Niro and the like, Tribeca Cinemas has several components that make it a necessary destination for movie-lovers.

Adjacent to the main entrance is The Varick Room. Its interior design is constantly altered to match requests for special events, parties, concerts, private screenings, TFF Week, and free festivities such as the Summer Cinema Series. The bar is fully stocked; a free-standing pop-corn machine is completely functional, and the upstairs lounge area is presumably more comfortable than your living room couch. Have I acquired your attention?

If the environment doesn’t adequately persuade you, think big screen: prestige. Although only aged about ten years, Tribeca Cinemas is a world-famous venue and home to the highly profitable film festival celebrated each year. The films and their audiences that pass through during springtime transform into the blockbusters that sit atop shelves as most prized possessions. A seat you may find to be out-dated has been the former chair of Oscar winning directors, producers, actors, and actresses. Not only is attendance free this summer, but so is the chance to step foot in a legendary building. As summer comes to a close, take advantage of this incredible opportunity while you still can!
