The New York International Fringe Festival will bring 200 shows to NYC from August 12-28. We spoke with writer/co-composer Katie Berger about Full: The Musical.

What was the first musical that made you want to make musicals?

Spring Awakening - my very favorite musical in this world.

Tell us about your show in 3 sentences or less.

Based on the playwright's personal experiences, Full follows the struggle of a young woman battered by adolescent trauma, combating her demons, finding herself powerless, and ultimately battling her way back. Full is about finding yourself.

Who is your favorite classic musical theater composer? And your favorite composer working today?

Stephen Sondheim! Lin Manuel-Miranda!

Why is it important to bring your show to Fringe?

This show, if given the opportunity, is incredibly important. It needs to be seen by people of all ages and backgrounds because it deals with subjects that affects so many people.

What's next for the show?

A fully produced production at Jobsite Theatre in Tampa, FL, as well as a one-act version being performed by high schools across the country!
