Percussion and Dance in Mulan the Musical

My first introduction to the ancient tale of Mulan was through Disney as a kid.  The story of a daughter who goes to war disguised as a man in place of her father, aiding successfully to win the battle.  Great music, fun characters and exquisite animation, however the Red Poppy Ladies' brings Mulan the Musical to life in a whole new light through their dance, kunqu-style movement and drumming.

StageBuddy spoke with Director Zhou Li about the musical, how this production differs from the last time the group was in the states and what audiences can expect to see at the theater.

Through September 13 at La MaMa's Ellen Stewart Theatre
