Winters, a successful Oklahoma doctor who always loved to sing, brings his spellbinding baritone to the table, as well as a disarming connection to his music and lyrics. From Pete Smith’s joyous guitar solo on a brilliant treatment of Luck Be a Lady to the winsome duet between Phil Palombi’s bass and Aaron Weinstein’s violin on In Passing Years, the musicianship throughout A Pre-Existing Condition is consistently excellent. Mark McLean, master of the drums, and Will Galison on his magic harmonicas contributed immeasurably to this recording.
