Dr. Harold Wise is an alcoholic who loses everything and while attempting to stay sober is forced to move back with his abusive, bigoted father, a raging drunk, after his wife asks him to leave. He is thrown into memories of the past requiring his forgiveness. Can he? His wife Margot suddenly faces her own addiction to Oxy and enters a rehab. This leaves their son August, who is racially mixed, lost and alone, struggling each day with the memory of the insidious grip of addiction. He sees his parents getting sober and wants so badly to forgive them. Can he? Forgiveness, he realizes, tastes as bitter as that which requires it.
