10/6 – Balancing Act 2: A Conversation with Writer and Director Richard Maltby Jr.  One of theater’s most esteemed lyricists, Richard Maltby (Starting Here, Starting Now, Closer Than Ever, Big, Baby with composer David Shire; Nick and Nora with composer Charles Strouse) also conceived and directed the only two musical revues to win a Tony Award for Best Musical: Ain’t Misbehavin’ and Fosse. Does his director side influence his writer side, and vice versa? How does each fulfill his creative goals? Three of his shows started in cabaret. What were the pluses and minuses of developing new works that way?
