In Proof of Identity, the acclaimed writer, reporter, and photographer Mikołaj Grynberg seeks answers to questions such as: What does that mean to be a Jew in contemporary Poland? Proof of Identity comprises intimate portraits of individuals across generations and covers rich ground — from religious and secular identity to responses to the Holocaust and antisemitism, to dreams of growing up Jewish and Polish in a new era. This poignant documentary, commissioned by the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw in honor of its 10th anniversary, is Grynberg’s directorial debut. A discussion with director Mikołaj Grynberg and Head of POLIN Museum’s Exhibition Department Joanna Fikus, moderated by Columbia University Film Professor, Annette Insdorf, will follow the screening.
