I lead a double life – foreign policy expert by day, standup comic by night. It’s a confusing combination. Sometimes I’ll be giving a super serious foreign policy speech, and halfway through people start laughing uncontrollably. Then I’ll be at a comedy club, and when I launch into my routine people start taking notes. But my bigger problem is that I’m terrible at my job. I’m supposed to be promoting world peace, but if you’ve been paying attention at all you can see I’ve been screwing up royally. The one silver lining is that my failed efforts are often hilarious. From getting banned from Fox News to being ridiculed by Russell Brand, my experiences run from the ridiculous to the bizarre. The problem is that no one with the power to do anything ever listens to me. In fact, if I call for something, the powers that be inevitably do the opposite. To say I get no respect is an understatement – I’m the Rodney Dangerfield of foreign policy experts. So join me as I trace my journey from a teenage Republican from a small town in upstate New York to a failed foreign policy pundit living on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.
