What happens when an attorney spends years litigating against Siegfried & Roy? He writes a revenge musical?

Shangri-La-La: The Siegfried & Roy Revenge Musical, created by attorney, composer and director Mike Meier from his firsthand experience representing clients in litigation involving the legendary Las Vegas illusionists, comes to Theater for the New City’s Dream Up Festival for one performance on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 2:00 PM in the Johnson Theater.

Narrated by the wisecracking ghost of Bugsy Siegel, Shangri-La-La follows Siegfried & Roy from ambitious outsiders to kings of the Las Vegas Strip, just as casino mogul Steve Wynn is transforming Sin City into a family-friendly fantasyland. Along the way come white tigers, Faustian bargains, courtroom warfare, show-business excess, manufactured mythology—and some spectacularly bad decisions.

The 60-minute musical comedy was written by Mike Meier and veteran comedy writer Peter Giambalvo, whose credits include Mr. Show with Bob and David and Tenacious D. Part Vegas spectacle, part show-business satire and part revenge fantasy, Shangri-La-La turns real-life legal conflict into an outrageous theatrical fable about ambition, illusion, fame and what happens when the machinery behind the magic begins to show.
“Most revenge musicals begin with heartbreak,” says general manager and publicist Jay Michaels. “This one began with litigation. Mike Meier actually went up against Siegfried & Roy—and years later turned the experience into a musical with Bugsy Siegel, Steve Wynn, white tigers and the Devil. You don’t get that backstory very often.”

Fresh from July performances at New York’s Midtown International Theatre Festival, Shangri-La-La continues its 2026 festival run with the Dream Up Festival appearance before heading to the Philadelphia Fringe Festival on September 27.

ABOUT THE CREATIVE TEAM
Mike Meier — Writer / Composer / Director
Mike Meier is a German-born writer, composer, musician, director and attorney whose legal career unexpectedly brought him into litigation involving Siegfried & Roy—the experience that eventually became the seed of Shangri-La-La. The grandson of Wladi-Kami, a traveling magician and fortune-teller in 1920s Germany, Meier has written novels, screenplays, music and theatrical works in addition to practicing law.
Peter Giambalvo — Co-Writer
Peter Giambalvo is a comedy writer and producer whose credits include Mr. Show with Bob and David, Tenacious D, and original projects for Warner Bros. and Current TV. His work spans television, film, web series, animation, commercials and branded entertainment.
