The call drops — but the voices don’t stop talking.
A live theater experience as hilarious as it is heartfelt — songs, stories, and poems about being at home, wherever home is.
Leave a Message After…THE BEEP is Pregones/PRTT’s original musical theater love letter to Puerto Rican voice, in all its verve: the Nuyorican fire of Jesús Papoleto Meléndez, Magdalena Gómez, and Mariposa Fernández — poets who turned block-party Spanglish and barrio blues into literature — meets the voices of island poets Francisco Félix Canales, Rubén Ramos Colón, and Amarilis Tavárez Vales, brought into the fold through collaboration with the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico (MAC). Diaspora and homeland, call and response, on the same stage. Four foundational and beloved voices round out the collection: Jesús Colón, Manuel Méndez Ballester, Julia de Burgos, Judith Ortiz Cofer.
THE BEEP is performed in English and Spanish with supertitles and appropriate for ages 12 and up.
Adapted and directed by Rosalba Rolón, with compositions and musical direction by Desmar Guevara.
