Presented as part of the Lincoln Center Contemporary Dance Festival, the New York premiere of Sombreristas awakens a long–forgotten code of rules solidified by secret handshakes, footraces, and subtle nods. Set on a cast of a dozen dancers and an equal cohort of lively hats, the work invites audiences to shed the skin of adult propriety and experience a childlike universe governed by the playful logic of sidewalk games. The program will also feature Torcer el Horizonte, a work showcasing the company’s versatility and virtuosity. Based in New York and founded in 2018 by Puerto Rican choreographer Omar Román de Jesús, BOCA TUYA is a Cultural Movement Collective centered on the promise of dreams, the thrill of rhythm, and the connectivity of storytelling.
