Brooklyn-born Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Joe Sexton’s acclaimed nonfiction book, “The Lost Sons of Omaha: Two Young Men in an American Tragedy” (Scribner – May 9, 2023), unpacks two linked and tragic deaths stemming from the 2020 George Floyd protests. It tells the story of James Scurlock, a 22-year old Black protester killed by Marine veteran and bar owner Jake Gardner, who then took his own life. Their intertwined deaths and the social media frenzy that followed provides Sexton with a lens to examine some of the most pressing issues facing America today: our racial mistrust and division, our dire need for gun control, and the toxic power of fake news. Join him for this 7pm Brooklyn Book Festival-presented conversation with The Lost Sons of Omaha audiobook narrator / actor Dion Graham, who has starred on Broadway, the iconic television series The Wire. He was also named AudioFile Magazine “Golden Voice Narrator.” Located at 157 Montague Street in Brooklyn Heights, St. Ann & The Holy Trinity can be reached by taking the #2, #3, #4 or #5 subway to Borough Hall, the “R” to Court Street or the “A”, “C” or “F” to Jay St. Borough Hall.
