Detailed Information:

Japan Society’s “Contemporary Dance Festival: Japan + East Asia” brings groundbreaking artists from the other side of the globe to New York. The Contemporary Dance Festival, in the tradition of its forerunner, the Contemporary Dance Showcase, which over two decades delivered 17 action-packed installments, celebrates defining artists of the moment – this year featuring revelatory works from Japan, Taiwan and Korea, in a selective program assembled by the Society’s Artistic Director Yoko Shioya. The 2019 Contemporary Dance Festival: Japan + East Asia features: butoh legend Akira Kasai’s renowned “Pollen Revolution,” performed by his son Mitsutake Kasai; choreographer Kuan-Hsiang Liu’s “Kids,” a tribute to death and his late mother’s fight against cancer, punctuated by moments of peace and serenity; and Goblin Party’s “Silver Knife,” exploring the conflicting sides of female identity, conveys complex emotions through the eloquent movements of four female dancers. Performance runs approximately 1:45 including one intermission.
