Join I Giullari di Piazza, the Southern Italian music/dance/theater company, for “Belloni, La Barbera and La Befana Talk and Sing,” a special live online presentation featuring music and stories about the Neapolitan Renaissance Christmas show “La Cantata dei Pastori,” created in the 17th century by Andrea Perrucci of Naples. Performers, all experts in Southern Italian performing arts dating back to the 13th century, are Alessandra Belloni, John La Barbera, Max McGuire as La Befana (the Good Witch of Christmas), violinist Joe Deninzon and dancer Francesca Silvano. The beloved story centers around Mary and Joseph travelling to Bethlehem, and their adventures on the way, which include meeting Razzullo, a commedia dell’arte character, and fighting off demons dispatched by the Devil to try to prevent the birth of Jesus. In the end, Good prevails over Evil.
