Seven-time Latin GRAMMY Award-winning singer-songwriter Lenine is one of Brazil’s most iconic musicians. A native of Recife who later moved to Rio de Janeiro, Lenine considers himself a “Brazilian of the world,” absorbing musical and cultural influences from around the globe, then integrating them into his phenomenally popular compositions. Over 35 years as a performer and more than a dozen albums, Lenine has heard his songs recorded by Milton Nascimento, Gilberto Gil, Ney Matogrosso, and many others. He is a much in-demand producer and arranger who has scored soundtracks for television, movies, plays, and dance performances, notably those of the renowned Grupo Corpo. Lenine has performed live at Peter Gabriel’s WOMAD Festival, The Montreal Film Festival, and Lincoln Center’s own globalFEST. For this year’s Brazil Week, Lenine will take the stage at Damrosch Park for an intimate concert with his trio, featuring Bruno Giorgi and Pantico Rocha, to play a career-spanning set of hits.
