ONE LONELY DAD, 30 DAYS OF GUITAR LESSONS, AND A WHOLE LOT OF UNFILTERED TRUTH
Michael Dermansky Brings the Hilarious and Heartwarming
One-Man Play “My Needy Letters to Keith Urban” to
Yellow Bicycle Theater This September
PHILADELPHIA, PA — What happens when a desperately isolated stay-at-home dad buys Keith Urban’s 30 Songs in 30 Days DVD collection off a late-night infomercial? He doesn’t just learn guitar—he finds an unprompted, unsuspecting pen pal in the country superstar.
This September, writer, actor, and real-life dad Michael Dermansky brings his vibrant new solo production, “My Needy Letters to Keith Urban,” to the Yellow Bicycle Theater stage for a strictly limited three-night engagement as part of the Philadelphia Fringe Festival movement.
Directed by Padraic Lillis and executive produced by Adina Taubman, My Needy Letters to Keith Urban is a raw, funny, and deeply relatable deep-dive into modern fatherhood. Through a series of hilarious and cringe-worthy letters read aloud, Dermansky relives the chaotic reality of being a stay-at-home dad who desperately needs a friend.
The show leaves no stone unturned, tackling the minefields of awkward playground playdates, high-stakes birthday parties, modern gender-neutral B-mitzvahs, marriage, money, family dynamics, and grief.
“We all reach a point where we’re just looking for a connection—even if it’s with a guitar legend on a DVD menu,” says creator and star Michael Dermansky.
Dermansky, who first captured theatrical audiences over two years ago with his solo show How to be a Groom, returns to the stage with two decades of marriage and parenting wisdom (and scars) under his belt.
With a tight 60-minute runtime, My Needy Letters to Keith Urban delivers an intimate, laugh-out-loud, and poignant theatrical experience that every parent, spouse, and human searching for connection will recognize.
