On the Scandinavian Music Festival’s 20th Anniversary, the organization will present 3 free concerts in Fort Tryon Park in Inwood. (Enter at the North End of the Park at Dykeman Street – concerts will be held on Cloisters Lawn.) The Orchestra, founded and conducted by Copenhagen’s Dorrit Matson, is custodian of a vast repertory of music by Scandinavian composers. Programs are: Friday June 6 at 5 PM: Scandia Brass Quintet will perform music by William Brade, Jorma Panula, Vegn Holmboe, Esko Helkinen, Anders Koppel, and the National Anthems of Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and Iceland. Sunday June 15 at 2 PM; Scandia Strings will perform music by Nikolaj Hess, Johan Helmich Roman, Frank Foerster (Premiere) Carl Nielsen, Josefine Opsahi (Premiere), and Edvard Grieg. Friday June 20 at 6 PM; the Scandia String Quartet will perform music by Christian Sinding, Carl Nielsen, Rued Langgaard, Grieg, and Scandinavian Traditional Melodies. Concerts are free of charge. Audience members are asked to please bring a folding chair or blanket.
