Parental Guidance Suggested – A Comedic Musical About The Chaos Of Working At A Daycare – For Minimum Wage

Not to Irene, the daycare teacher’s assistant at the center of the comedic musical, Parental Guidance Suggested (An Unfortunately True Musical Dramedy).

Parental Guidance Suggested deals with the stressful workday at a daycare from the perspective of Irene, the teacher’s assistant who does the dirty work of the job: cleaning, caring for the chaotic kids (played by adult actors), diaper changing, toilet training, the lead teacher’s constant criticism, food preparation, and more cleaning – all for minimum wage. Irene deals with her miserable job by breaking the 4th wall – and into song.

Parental Guidance Suggested is part of the Dream Up Festival at Theater For The New City. The musical was previously included at NY Winterfest in January 2017 for three performances.

Irene was inspired to create (as well as direct & act in) Parental Guidance Suggested from her personal experiences working at a particularly difficult daycare and wanted to create an entertaining and relatable comedy from her unpleasant memories. She wrote 11 songs dealing with the typical daycare issues, such as the impossible cleaning after play doh, toddlers fighting over a doll and a three year old boy who pees everywhere.

Parental Guidance Suggested is a dark comedic musical that will make you rethink what you know of daycare – and how to survive a job you hate.
