Join us for an original performance written and produced by our own Calvin Ramsey and directed by Jeannine Otis. The play features the voices and participation of many St. Marks’s folks and pays tribute to beloved member and St. Mark’s artist-in-residence Vinie Burrows. Directing and Performing as Vinie Burrows:Jeannine Otis with: David McCorkle, Larry Marshall, Noreen Crayon-as Phillis Wheatley, Perbell Robinson, Roger Jack Walter and Ted Reinert. Born in Gambia, West Africa and enslaved as a child when she arrived in America in the mid 1700’s, Phillis Wheatley is recognized as the first African American woman to publish a book of poems. Located on 10th Street and Second Avenue the venue can be reached by taking the “N” or “R” train to 8th Street or the #6 to Astor Place in Manhattan.
