In Room 303, an old man lies alone, waiting, as his time nears an end. / At the age of 6, a girl leaves her bedroom and family home and walks. She never stops. Until now. / In a small kitchen, standing by her sink—a wife wills her own implosion. A trio of installations, each room framing a new voice from Enda Walsh in this absorbing exploration of solitude.

Enda Walsh’s recent work includes Lazarus, written with David Bowie; The Last Hotel, with music by Donnacha Dennehy; Arlington and Ballyturk (Landmark Productions and Galway International Arts Festival), both of which play the Abbey Theatre, Ireland’s National Theatre, in Spring 2017. Arlington plays St. Ann’s Warehouse in New York from May 3-28, 2017. Walsh won a Tony Award for writing the book for the musical Once in 2012.

Among Walsh’s many successes, his recent notable works include writing the book for Lazarus, his stage musical collaboration with David Bowie. For a variety of reasons, a different kind of kudos became readily available with this project, perhaps encouraging the multiplex of design available here. Inside a waiting room in one of Arlington’s oppressive tower blocks, Isla (Charlie Murphy) awaits what the mysterious totalitarian regime has in store for her. She is questioned by a nervous …Read more
