An intimate evening of brave new work conceived by Jessica Hecht, Igor Golyak, and Neena Beber featuring Danny Burstein, Jessica Hecht, Marin Ireland, and Alfred Molina. These luminaries of theatre read excerpted scenes from two new plays in this special one-night-only event.
A hotel room. A graveyard chapel. In two confined spaces, a man and a woman meet after years apart to confront a past that cannot be undone. In Lot Vekemans’ Poison, a former couple reunites at the cemetery where their young son is buried, confronting the grief that destroyed their marriage and the radically different lives they have built in its aftermath. In Neena Beber’s A Foreign Body, a woman confronts a celebrated filmmaker who sexually assaulted her as a child, forcing both to reckon with trauma, memory, power, and accountability. Placed in conversation, the plays wrestle with difficult questions: What does it mean to move forward when the past can neither be changed nor forgotten? Can grief transform into art, and can art redeem the artist?
