Detailed Information:

A dependable haven for artists in isolation, Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) is now in its fourth year of non-stop weekly Community Gatherings this Friday, having offered to date nearly 250 conversations and unlimited camaraderie since April 17, 2020. TRU hosts these Community Gatherings every Friday at 5pm ET via Zoom, originally presented to explore the creation of art and theater in the time of COVID-19, and now to ensure that these crucial conversations continue going forward.

1/31 – A “Different Kind of Theater” That Forged a Model for Others: The Guthrie. In the room: Tracy Brigden, senior artistic producer and Carla Steen, resident dramaturg. Originally conceived in 1959 by Tyrone Guthrie to break away from the restrictions of commercial theater, The Guthrie Theater opened in 1963 and helped pave the way for the development of today’s regional theaters throughout America, as well as supporting the growth of a healthy theater community in the Minneapolis and St. Paul area. In what ways is it still faithful to the legacy of Guthrie, and how has it grown and evolved over six decades? Now run with a huge staff and a complex infra-structure, what is the company hierarchy and division of labor? How does it serve the community and maintain and grow its subscriber base? What precipitated the need for a new theater building in 2006? How did the company respond to shutdown, and have things returned to normal yet?
