Sundog Theatre presents Scenes from the Staten Island Ferry 2015
Opening March 7 in Staten Island at the New Dorp Moravian Church Theatre, and opening in Manhattan at Vital Theatre on March 19.
This year—in lieu of the regular submission/playwrighting competition—Sundog Theatre chose four Staten Island playwrights to each write a play with the last piece tying the stories together. The theme is mysterious and the players converge at the end in a revelation that surprises more than one of them.
This year’s playwrights are James Barone, Fay Corinotis, Helene Montagna and Eric Petillo.
All four writers have worked on Scenes… from their past submissions of original plays. They are all well known on the Island for their original creative writing of one act and full length plays, at several different venues. They also are part of a playwrights’ collective on the Island that meets regularly to write and critique original works.
Scenes from the Staten Island Ferry initially consisted of six original one-acts in 2003 that were written, directed, rehearsed, and performed within 24 hours. The presentation evolved into a playwrighting competition where writers from throughout the world yearly submit short plays that have their setting on the Staten Island Ferry. Due to enthusiastic audience and media response, Sundog now presents Scenes… annually.
