Theater for the New City’s Dream Up Festival is proud to present the world premiere of Lorraine Liscio’s new play “City of Ladies,” directed by Myriam Cyr and starring OBIE-winning actress Angela Pierce, who portrays celebrated medieval writer Christine de Pizan, who dared to challenge the way women had been depicted, dismissed, and defined by men. Paris, 1418, Christine, already a famous writer, is fighting to complete the work that will become her legacy, “The Book of the City of Ladies,” when she finds herself caught between the powerful Duke of Burgundy and a kingdom sliding once more toward war. Against a world of books, manuscripts, political intrigue, and approaching war, “City of Ladies” pits the power of the written word against the power of the state. Joining Pierce are actors Sama Qarnain, Garrett Lee Hendricks, Orson Cox, Molly Stern, Greg Stuhr, and Jason Pintar. 6 performances at various times from September 5 to September 13th
