As one of the first guitarists accepted into the Curtis Institute of Music, it should come as no surprise that classical and electric guitarist Jiyeon “JIJI” Kim is rapidly ascending to classical music stardom.
Recently appointed to a faculty position at Arizona State University, JIJI continues to pursue her industrious commissioning project Never Not Enough, an incarnation of her desire to expand the 21st century guitar repertoire by engaging with ambitious young composers. Her Soundspace recital will juxtapose the old with the new, including three world premieres born from Never Not Enough and Krists Auznieks’ electroacoustic Cor alongside movements of Bach and Albéniz, an arrangement of a 17th-century motet by Claudia Sessa and the chameleonic Caprice No. 24 of Paganini.
