Coming to The 13th Street Rep in October to commemorate BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH: Sympathy in C, by Suzanne Mernyk, a new play that tackles cancer and terrorism with inspiration, music, and a little comedy. SYMPATHY IN C, a new symphonic play juxtaposing cancer and terrorism, opens October 3rd for a two week run, and closes October 14th. The production is timed to coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness Month so that it can bring awareness to all of those who are touched by cancer, as well as those who stand up to fight it.
This riveting play with music captures stories of courage and determination by exploring these parallel threats as well as the choices we make when confronted by the inconceivable. Written by New York City playwright, Suzanne Mernyk, and directed by Terry Hanson, it features eight “voices,” spoken and instrumental, intertwining to expose a diagnosis of cancer and the threat of terrorism, a growing cancer in the soul of society.
Accompanied by a cellist and violist, six actors make their stories personal as they dare to confront these adversaries with anger, love, hope, humor, surrender and … sympathy.
Skillfully directed by Mr. Hanson, the ensemble presents dazzling staging and a memorable theatrical experience. To acknowledge this important month and cause, a portion of all proceeds are being donated to StandUp to Cancer.
SYMPATHY IN C is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. Contributions for the charitable purposes of “Sympathy in C” must be made payable to “Fractured Atlas” only and are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
