Q&A with Marco Argiro of Marco With Love

marco-driving

Started in 2013 by Brooklyn-based lead singer and guitarist Marco Argiro, rock band Marco With Love has an LP (Love) out now on Outright Rock Records, and EP forthcoming in late 2014. We had the fantastic opportunity to interview Argiro, who was as cool and laid back as his music.

I listened to, and watched the video to "Will You Remember Poison Heart?" That is the most New York City video someone could have ever created. Putting in major subways, all the iconic sites, etc.

MA: Like many others I've fallen in love with the city. And I wanted to convey all the iconic New York locations that I could in one particular video. Just for the people who don't have the chance to visit New York, or who live in other countries or states. Give them a little glimpse into my world, and into the world of New Yorkers. Like you said, all the iconic spots. And that's basically all of my favorite spots that I've walked through or lived through in the last decade. Just like you, I love New York and I wanted to.

Where does the name Marco With Love come from? I get Marco from your name, but why with love?

MA:  The record we're currently promoting is called Love and also the title of a track in the album. And when we were putting together the live project, the live band to perform and tour, we thought it was a more cohesive unit to call it "Marco With Love," as opposed to "Marco and Love," or "Marco And The Lovers," or something like that. It was more of a unified effort, you know? A group playing together, that's really where it came from. It's a loosely a play on To Russia With Love, like a James Bond film or something like that. Kind of had that feel to that. Or a vintage postcard, with that vintage signature.

You've been in about three other band projects before -- why start Marco With Love?

MA: I had made the record, it was a solo record, and I felt strongly about the songs, and I wanted to put together the best possible group to showcase the material, and it was the right time...It's all about timing.  And it was only a year and a half ago when we started the group, so the record came out in September of 2013, and it hasn't even been out a year. And the live project was only going about 6 months before the record came out. But just timing, where I currently was with the material I was writing, and reflects it, and yeah.

Your music gives off a classic rock and roll feel, is that what you're going for?

MA: Certainly I grew up with a fair amount of the classics growing up, a lot of the 50's, 60's, early 70's rock and roll. So I guess you can say classic rock and roll, and rhythm and blues. And a little punk rock in my early years. And I'm a songs guy. So what made it on that record are the best of the songs I've written for the last couple of years up until the recording. I never set out to say, "Oh I'll make a classic rock album," I just. I just happened to love so many different styles of music that fall into that categories. And that's what you hear in Love.

What's your favorite song to perform?

MA: I'm really partial to the second song on the album, "In The Shade," which is going to be our next single. And the video is completed, we're waiting for that to premiere in the next couple of weeks or so. So any week now, in the next two or three weeks.

Stagebuddy: So the show on the 8th, are you excited about that?

Marco Argiro: Yeah, I'm very excited. We're really looking forward to it, it's a great line up.

Who else is playing?

MA: The opening artist is named Patrick Bates, and we're going on follow him, and then the closer of that evening is Victoria Reed. So we're kind of sandwiched between two new artists. And we're going on at 9 o'clock, our set time is from 9:00 to 9:45. But the doors open at 7:30pm.

Don't forget to get your Converse laced up tight, 'cause this fantastic band is playing on August 8th at The Bowery Electric. For more info, click here.
