Every November, men around the world grow mustaches in an effort to raise money and awareness for men's health issues, such as prostate and testicular cancer. This year, the Broadway community has added their support to the good cause -- and the upper lips of Broadway's male contingent (from leading men to background dancers to crew members) have grown increasingly hairy over the course of the month. (Click here to see some great photos of the cast of "Peter and the Starcatcher".)
StageBuddy's Karen Elliott (currently on tour with "Sister Act") recently had the chance to interview some members of the Broadway community about their participation in Movember. Edgar Gallardo (right), for example, is a former Broadway dancer and owner of Heavenly Cakes in Hell's Kitchen. He is participating for the first time this year, through his gym, Brick Cross Fit New York; as of publication he has raised more than $60 from friends and family. Jeff Kalpak (left), of the Barkley Kalpak Agency, is raising money for a friend (a member of the Broadway community) who is having prostate surgery next month. His team has raised $3799.
And, of course, she interviewed her colleagues of "Sister Act", as well. Watch the video below of the crew on the musical's national tour, in which they show off their handsome Movember mustaches and explain why Movember is a worthy cause:
