Review: Glitter Gutter at the Slipper Room

unnamed-9The weekly Wednesday floor show of the Slipper Room bar known as the Glitter Gutter show may be the best kept secret burlesque of the city. With featured acts such as Fire-eaters, Go-Go dancers, and aerial acrobatics, it's essentially Pippin the Musical but in a cool intimate hipster bar. Last week's special guest stars included the immensely talented South African Pop Goddess Binx, who delighted the crowd with outstanding musical performances throughout the night. The singer is another well kept secert I urge you to keep an eye on. Your heart will thank you.

unnamed-11The audience, made up of young exotic travelers from all around the world, were also very welcoming of returning guest star world renowned burlesque dancer Chris Harder, who not only steals the show, but the intermission as well: his one-man light show kept the masses even more crazed then perhaps during the actual show.

I had no idea just how talented each and every performer was going to be. I mean, when you walk into a small bar in lower Manhattan, and you don't expect shows of this quality. The show is only made better by the fantastic waitstaff serving under-priced and delicious drinks behind the bar, a talented Brazilian cartoonist, and the comedic host of the shameless spectacle "Zero Boy," who takes you along a celebration of music, dance, comedy and wonder with his incredible talent for vocal sound effects. If you are in the city, I urge you to check out Wednesday nights at the Slipper Room. Be a part of the secret. Be a part of the magic.
