Associated Chamber Music Players (ACMP) announced the return of the Foundation’s largest grant program, the Community Music program. The program was introduced in 1993, but put on hiatus in 2010 as a result of the recession.
The Community Music program will provide funding for programs beginning this spring. Community Music grants support the continuing learning and instruction in chamber music for musicians of all ages through community-based programs. Priority is given to programs that encourage diversity and education and provide access for underserved communities. Applications for programs for students ages 18 and under are of particular interest. Grants in the range of $1,500 – $2,500 will be awarded in spring 2017 for programs beginning after the deadline date, May 15, 2017.

In addition to the Community Music program, ACMP provides workshop grants to organizations providing chamber music workshops for adult amateurs worldwide. In the most recent round, in January 2017, eighteen grants were awarded, including four to overseas organizations and fourteen in the U.S. Overseas grants were provided for chamber music workshops in Japan, Israel, and Belgium. Grants in the U.S. include awards to Chamber Musicians of Northern California at San Francisco State University; Boston Chamber Music Society at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and to the Music Northwest Camp, Seattle.
ACMP Members may also apply for Home Coaching grants, where a professional musician will provide coaching to an ensemble on particular repertoire.

ACMP also presents an annual award for chamber music education achievement. Just announced, the 2017 Susan McIntosh Lloyd Award for excellence in diversity and education in chamber music was awarded to The Preucil School of Music, in recognition of the leadership by Doris Preucil in promoting the love and knowledge of chamber music. The Preucil School, located in Iowa City, IA, seeks to provide excellence in music and early childhood education based on the Suzuki philosophy of instruction.

Since publishing its first member directory in 1950, ACMP has brought together thousands of musicians, fostering life-long friendships and connecting a global community. In addition, ACMP’s affiliated Foundation has provided grants and awards totaling more than four million dollars to support educational activities of young musicians, community-based music programs, and amateur chamber music players.
