MOMIX is an incredible blend of dance and acrobatics with light, costume and prop illusion. You'll see incredible feats of human body strength contorted into beautiful shapes, along with creative imagery. If you like Pilobolus, or other extreme forms of gymnastic dance, you'll love this show.
The show consists of many small dances. Each its own piece, and to its own set of music. These works have been created over nearly 40 years and include both retrospective and new works.
Is the founder of MOMIX, having been one of the founders of Pilobolus before leaving to form his own company. His work is creative and extremely fun to watch.
This is a terrifically fun show to watch. Each dance is creative and pushes the boundaries of the usage of costume and props and how they can be integrated into the theme of a dance. Lighting adds to the intensity of mood as do the moody soundtracks. The only negative thing that can be said is that, mostly, each piece is only about one 'gimmick' or prop, and after about one minute of 'wow' factor, the next few minutes are an abstraction of the same. It would be interesting to see an evolution from this structure where, like most music structures, new elements are slowly added into a dance as it develops, rather than keeping the pieces linear.
The critique aside, the show is brilliant and certainly worthy of going to! I highly recommend seeing it - you won't be disappointed!
