WikiMusical, directed by Richard J. Hinds and musically directed by Sonny Paladino, a show for the New York Musical Theatre Festival at the Pearl Theater, is a regular ol' Alice in Wonderland -- if you replace Alice with two head-butting, tech-savvy brothers, Wonderland with Cyberland and "regular" with "insanely creative, witty and utterly delightful."

The play opens in the Oglesby home, late Christmas Eve in the 80s. Precocious young Peter (Noah Marlowe) and his kid brother, cute-as-a-button Kurt (Lucas Schultz) are given a special present from a sassy Santa (Adam B. Shapiro) -- a Gateway computer, complete with the promise of an internet age where "everyday is Christmas."

Fast-forward to the present, older Peter (Perry Sherman) and Kurt (Trey Harrington) are back home for the holidays and no longer friendly to each other. But due to some hi-jinx and virtual voodoo Peter and Kurt find themselves trapped inside the cyberworld. Soon, thanks to the rapping mascot of the Net, Kitten McMittens (Barry Shafrin), our heroes learn they must make it to the land of Wikipedia in order to return to reality.  Along the way, Kurt and Peter meet blogger Jacqui (Alison Novelli), a feisty, fierce Morgan Freeman (Darius Harper) and many other cyber creatures such as Skeeter the Twitter bird, Emoticon the emotional waif pining for Princess LOL (Heather Jane Rolff), Jimmy Wales (Bob Walton) and the Father of Facebook himself (Michael Mahany).  As Kurt and Peter roam the cities of cyberspace, their relationship fractures then mends then fractures again and again until they band together to confront the diva Spam King (Brenda Braxton) -- the "prime minister of sinister" who rules the Internet and is hell bent on taking control of reality too.

The play features original music by Trent Jeffors, Frank Ceruzzi and Blake J. Harris. The catchy tunes are performed impressively well by all cast members, each bringing a sound as unique as the over-the-top characters they portray. The strongest song in the show is arguably "The Brother Song"; performed by Peter and Kurt, it takes place in a brotherly man-cave pocket of the Internet inhabited by the Blues Brothers, Mario and Luigi, and the Manning brothers.

The story itself is hilarious, eliciting belly laughs from the audience. Many of the jokes are obviously designed for those who were raised and currently residing on the Net -- calling up everything from the screeching old dial-up tone, selfies and Nigerian prince e-mail scams. But it is as full of heart as it is hearty laughs.

The play is highly recommended for anyone who can speak in meme, loves fantastical quests or has ever resented their own flesh and blood while connecting more with technological devices.
