Artist Spotlight: 2econd Stages’ Annapurna Sriram

Annapurna Sriram may be the youngest in her cast of "The Happiest Song Plays Last" at 2econd Stage, but she certainly can hold her own.  Born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, this recent Rutgers graduate is already racking up credits with some of the States' top regional theaters.  Sriram's confidence and self-awareness have contributed to her success amidst an industry that would rather box her in based on appearance.  Like so many smart artists of this generation, she has a web series in development that shares her passion for music in sketch comedy scenarios -- a great fit for a good laugh.

We caught up with the gorgeous actress a day after opening night of "The Happiest Song Plays Last".  Sriram speaks about auditioning, the pros and cons of being racially ambiguous, and why it's so important to create your own work.

"The Happiest Song Plays Last" continues through Mar. 23 at Second Stage Theater.
