Blank! The Musical Brings Musical Theater Improv to New World Stages

StageBuddy recently had a chance to peek in on a pre-production presentation of Blank! The Musical, an improvised musical theater event set to open at New World Stages November first.

Mixing old-school improvisation, big Broadway Musical theatricality and high-tech interactivity, the cast and crew of Blank! The Musical creates a brand new musical every night. And, for possibly the first time in a New York theater history, a specially designed mobile app, developed in partnership with Livecube, will allow audience members to engage directly with the on-stage players and influence the action right from their mobile phones.

The cast of Blank! The Musical is comprised of leading musical improvisers from around the country, including Katie Dufrense (Happy Karaoke Fun Time!, Improvised Sondheim Project), Nicole C. Hastings (The Second City National Touring Company, Improvised Sondheim Project), Tessa Hersh (People’s Improv Theatre), Andrew Knox (The Second City National Touring Company, with The Improvised Shakespeare Company), TJ Mannix (Second City, NYMF’s Hurricane), Matthew Van Colton (Porchlight, Baby Wants Candy), Douglas Widick (F#%king Up Everything, North Coast -founder). The design team includes Tony Award winner Jeff Croiter (Peter and the Starcatcher, Newsies) and Matt Kraus (Liza’s at The Palace, Kathy Griffin Wants a Tony).

Blank! The Musical is created by Michael Girts, T.J. Shanoff (director) and Mike Descoteaux (musical director). Matt Britton executive produces. The show will begin previews at NYC’s New World Stages on November 1, open on November 17 and run through December 14, 2014. For more information go to: www.Blankthemusical.com
