Best TV Style: Gossip Girl

gossip-girl-gowns-w724This week, we're doing a retrospective on some of TV's best fashion.  If you haven't already seen yesterday's feature on Sex and the City, check it out here.

Today, we're going to take a look at another television program set in New York City: Gossip Girl.

Another show as famous for its fashion choices as its story lines, Gossip Girl thrilled viewers with designer threads and its New York City sense of style throughout the show's six seasons. The show's characters, like SATC's, had money to burn: there wasn't an outfit or accessory these characters couldn't afford. Eric Daman, the show's stylist, thus had free reign to chose the biggest names in fashion and viewers will forever thank him for his incredible eye. Go-to designers included the high-fashion likes of Balenciaga, Jenny Packham, Oscar de la Renta, and Christian Dior. Blair's sophisticated, preppy, fashion-forward outfits and Serena's free-spirit flair combined with perfect hair, makeup, and accessories to create television eye candy. The men in the show looked amazing, too: Chuck's perfectly tailored suits were a styling lesson for every wanna-be Manhattan businessman.  And with the show's many black-tie affairs, there were lots of opportunities for Daman to dress the actors in gorgeous gowns and tuxedos.

With fashion this good, it'll come as no surprise that Daman was discovered by and worked under Patricia Field for three seasons on Sex and the City.  He told the New York Post in 2012, "Patricia was about pushing the boundaries and expanding the character through clothing. She and Sarah Jessica Parker were two great mentors. It was like Costumes 101 with the best teachers in the world."  Well, it shows.  You want to lose an hour of your life?
