How many times does 1 go into 120? The answer may be found at this year’s United Solo Theater Festival, where more than 120 one-person shows from 23 countries will be performed on Theater Row, Oct. 3-Nov. 24. Already, 25 shows are sold out, and this year’s fest runs nearly two months – not bad, considering United Solo began only four years ago with a two-week-long event.
As for “names” in this year’s Fest, Emmy-winning TV actor Gordon Clapp, who played Detective Medavoy throughout “NYPD Blue,” will appear as poet Robert Frost in “This Verse Business” (Nov. 16). Also, Hollywood thesp Eric Roberts and his wife, Eliza, co-direct “Beneath My Fathers’ Sky” featuring Zara Phillips (Nov 12 & 24). Shows that might be familiar from previous stagings include Fran Ingrasciotta’s “Blood Type: RAGU” (Oct. 31) and Chuck Muckle’s look at pianist/comedian Oscar Levant, “At Wit’s End” (Oct. 27).
