Modern times call for endless options, and what could be more thrilling than arriving at your favorite holiday store and realizing you can have your picture taken with the Santa Claus of your choice? Event producers Psycho Clan are hoping to make your dreams come true in 2015, with their first ever Santastical. Known for their unique holiday experiences, the company has specialized in haunted houses like Nightmare Horrow Show, Lynch-ian Easter events like Full Bunny Contact and Nightmare (Before Christmas) which saw visitors come face to face with some of their biggest fears during a season usually reserved for pure joy. “People are at their most sensitive to being afraid during the holidays”, explained producer Timothy Haskell, as he showed me around the Santastical set, which was being put together at The Clemente.

Haskell came up with concept of the event, which will see patrons wander through different little Christmas worlds, in which they can let their holiday-freak-flag fly. There’s a “Christmas emoji wall” meant to make use of the constant connectivity of our world, “everything’s about pictures” says Haskell, “we live in a culture that we sort of live our lives after the event is over, because we look at the pictures that we took.” Patrons at Santastical are encouraged to use the hashtag #Santastical when they tag their pictures, which might help them win special treats in the future.

There’s a pretend ice pond, where people can take pictures while reenacting their favorite ice skating, whether they’re more Johnny Weir or Tonya Harding is strictly up to them. An exciting Christmas karaoke world complete with a raised stage, an intimate mistletoe forest where people can “make love connections”, and a tongue-in-cheek interactive nativity scene where patrons are invited to play their favorite characters (Joseph, Mary and the Three Wise Men), you can bring your own baby, or pop your head into the crib and hope your Catholic grandmother never sees the pictures.

All of these fun worlds lead to the final stage which will offer them the opportunity to sit and pose with the Santa of their choice; Krampus, Bernie Santas, Sexy Mrs. Claus, Black Santa, Hunky Santa and Hannuklaus. At the end of Santastical, you will get to go home with Christmas treats, a printed picture of you and Santa to give to your parents (Haskell suggested people should be in each other’s pictures, so you won’t be the only one sitting with Bernie) and memories to cherish forever. “You can come and hang out, we want people to feel good, holidays can be stressful for people, so we want to do things that are silly and fun” explained Haskell. And hey, we’ll have a holiday-themed drink to that!
