Amazing news for Broadway fans: Tony-winning actress Patina Miller, of "Pippin" fame, has just been cast in "The Hunger Games". Between getting engaged, winning her first Tony, and now adding the role of Commander Paylor to her accolades, Miller might just be having her Best Year Ever.
"The Hunger Games" is a 2008 science fiction novel by American writer Suzanne Collins, which most people know from the film adaptation released in 2012. The series tells the story of 16-year-old Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), who lives in the post-apocalyptic nation in a small town in North America and is chosen to fight in the Hunger Games -- an annual event in which one boy and one girl, aged 12 to 18, are picked from the surrounding twelve districts to compete in a televised battle to the death.
With the first film of the series grossing $407,999,255 and the second, "Hunger Games: Catching Fire" set to release this November, this is a tremendous coup for Miller. Miller will play Commander Paylor, the leader among the rebels in District 8, in the final two films of the franchise, "Hunger Games: Mockingjay" (Parts 1 and 2). If the role stays true to the book Miller will be having a great time on set.
No need to fear Broadway fans: a "Pippin" representative announced Miller will not be departing from the Tony-winning revival so you'll soon be able to catch this Broadway star on both stage and the big screen.
