"Dark Water." Dark Topic. Fresh Perspective.

It's refreshing to witness a theater company using art to give voice to those who literally can't speak for themselves.  David Stallings' "Dark Water" deals with issues of immigration, religion and politics in the swampland of Louisiana -- all through the story of Barnacle, a sea turtle who must find her way through the destruction wreaked by a massive oil spill to save her children. Heather Cohn directs this world premiere from the award-winning Manhattan Theatre Works (MTWorks), in association with The Theatre Series at the 14th Street Y.

StageBuddy's Glenn Quentin got a chance to talk with the Co-Artistic Directors David Stallings and Antonio Minino about the play and its relevance, using language to create dynamic characters, and the puppetry and music that will surprise the audience.

Through Mar. 29 at the Theater at the 14th St. Y.
