It's October and most of the new TV shows for the 2013 Fall season have officially premiered! So, which ones amused and which ones flopped? Here's a look back at all of our reviews. (We will update as the last few reviews come in.)
Excerpt: "This little show about baseball flew way under the radar — and yet managed to deliver one of the most coherent, funny, touching, and satisfying pilots of the fall."
Excerpt: "“Nine-Nine” is a zippy, fast-paced, and clever new show that successfully blends hilarious office dynamics with a little cop action."
Excerpt: "In its first episode, at least, “The Crazy Ones” is much more conventional than it thinks it is, despite its splashy packaging."
Excerpt: "It is hard to put into words how bad “Dads” really is — but to give you an idea, sitting through the 22 minutes of the pilot’s running time felt like experiencing an hour-long root canal with no anesthesia."
Excerpt: "In a nutshell: “The Goldbergs” is a Jewish, ’80s-set version of “The Wonder Years”."
Excerpt: "If Aaron Sorkin writes the intelligent, clever, fast-paced dialogue we wish we were having, then this show highlights the facepalm-worthy conversations most of us have on a daily basis."
Excerpt: "The sad reality is that if “The Michael J. Fox Show” had starred anyone but Michael J. Fox, it wouldn’t be getting much attention at all."
Excerpt: "”The Millers” is a groan-worthy, eye-rolling comedy that really scrapes the bottom of the fart-jokes barrel for its laughs."
Excerpt: "If you find yourself cringing at the thought of talented actresses humiliating themselves by slumming it on a low-rent, unfunny sitcom underscored by a grating laugh track, then steer clear."
Excerpt: "It’s always interesting to watch an actor so famous for one role try to break out of that mold and into a new character on a new show. Sean Hayes sidesteps that problem here by simply playing the same character on a new show."
Excerpt: " While television can definitely benefit from more leading ladies who aren’t model thin and stereotypically gorgeous, simply having a large woman as your protagonist isn’t enough to make your show worth watching."
Excerpt: "It’s not the most original idea for a show, but the pilot is thankfully not without its charms, due mostly to the admirable efforts of star Malin Akerman."
Excerpt: "I can’t stress this enough: there is absolutely nothing worthwhile about this show."
Excerpt: "Perhaps the best thing about the pilot is that it presents the audience with two families of different ethnic backgrounds — we’re prepared for a slew of culture-clash comedy — and then hardly delivers a single racist punchline."
