It's October and most of the new TV shows for the 2013 Fall season have officially premiered! So, which ones amazed and which ones bombed? Here's a look back at all of our reviews. (We will update as the last few reviews come in.)
Excerpt: "”American Horror Story” has never been for the faint of heart, and despite a tone that’s decidedly less grim than last season, “Coven” is looking to be just as delightfully twisted as its predecessors."
Excerpt: " ”Betrayal” was clearly envisioned to be a sexy, sudsy follow-up to the popular drama “Revenge”. Instead it’s a wet, mopey, passionless mess that would be more suited to a daytime soap opera than a primetime slot."
Excerpt: "“The Blacklist” has successfully introduced itself as a new, intriguing mystery show that will please fans of both procedural cop shows and serialized mystery shows."
Excerpt: "The strongest aspect of this “Dracula” is its willingness to toy with aspects of the story that have been set in stone for centuries."
Excerpt: "While it’s not impossible that the show could turn into an exciting, long-lasting, high-quality series, the odds are certainly stacked against it."
Excerpt: "Note to NBC: if you’re going to make another procedural police drama, just spin-off your hyper-successful “Law & Order” franchise. But don’t try to disguise your completely by-the-numbers show by putting your lead character in a wheelchair."
Except: "The mature content, the urban setting, the gritty cinematography, the stylized editing all combine to make a show that would feel more at home on a cable channel like AMC."
Excerpt: "When you take a franchise famous for its mega-budget, visual excess, and huge star power and shrink it down to TV-size, it’s inevitably going to take a period of adjustment before it stops feeling underwhelming."
Excerpt: "This is a show about intimacy, both physical and emotional, and the pilot takes plenty of time to expose us to the latter kind."
Excerpt: "A couple solid performances are not enough to keep this candy-colored confection from slipping inevitably down the rabbit hole into absurdity."
Excerpt: "It’s a foregone conclusion that the legions of TVP followers will flock to this show, and it’s equally a foregone conclusion that no one else will give it a second look."
Excerpt: "In terms of The CW’s offerings, it is an unusually smart, well-plotted, well-acted, beautiful show that has the potential to appeal to a wider fan base than some of the network’s more narrowly-focused shows."
Excerpt: "You’d be forgiven for thinking that a show about Ichabod Crane waking up in the modern day sounds ridiculous. It definitely does. And yet it surprisingly makes for a fun, fast-paced new mystery thriller."
Excerpt: "While no sane person could ever argue that “The Tomorrow People” is original, it certainly makes for a pulpy and promising new series that will be a perfect match for fans of “Arrow”."
